The need for qualitative research in health and social care is rapidly expanding. Delivering patient or client-centred services requires in-depth understanding of people’s information and support needs and their experiences of care. Innovation and improvement of service delivery means we need to know why positive change takes hold in some circumstances but not in others. Qualitative research is a powerful tool for getting at the in-depth information we need to understand these complex issues.
